RAW Artists Chicago.

I was lucky enough to be a part of a really amazing event on August 10th, RAW Artists Chicago: REVEAL. And I am so excited to share my experience with the event here on the blog!!!

So, what is RAW Artists? RAW is a company that promotes and supports local talent in 60 different cities in the United States, Australia, Canada and the UK. They put on showcases in all of theses cities where new and upcoming artists can show off their talents in a unique "gallery" setting. Artists with physical art have booths set up to display and sell their art, and performing artists have time slots on the stage. They are committed to their artists, during the time leading up to the show they feature "artists of the day" on their social media and they encourage you to keep in touch with the RAW community after your show.

How did I get involved? In June, I received a message from Amber with the RAW Artists Chicago Instagram via direct messages stating that she had seen my color and style work and that she would love to feature me in the next Chicago showcase. Shortly after we spoke on the phone and she told me all about RAW and the REVEAL showcase and I was won over! I absolutely loved the company and the passion behind those involved. While on the phone I had to ask how she had found and selected me, her simple answer was "Hashtags. They are so important its how we scout any of our artists."

As a hairstylist in a RAW Artists Showcase you are given pedestal time where people can stop and look at your models as they are browsing around among all of the different booths, and then towards the end of the night there is stage time where each hair or makeup artist is announced and each model does a runway walk. Once I had decided to be a part of this amazing event the brainstorming began, what did I want to present and who did I want to use to make my vision come alive? I quickly began to envision a romantic bohemian overall look and I was lucky enough to have 4 wonderful ladies more than willing to participant as my models.

Emily Creek : My beauty in blue. Several months ago she expressed interest in doing a creative balayage and we created this look. The moment that I decided I was going to be in the showcase I knew I had to use her as a model! She's a unique and loving soul who inspires me daily with her big heart and many passions and boy does she rock this color!

Amy Cartwright : This curly lady had never colored her hair until last month!! It is always an honor and a treat to do someones color who has never adventured into the color world. She loves to rock her natural red hair but she wanted to change it up a bit. As we talked about this (over months) we decided a natural sunkissed balayage would be a perfect look for her. I absolutely love her natural curly texture and red hair so I was so excited when she said yes to be a part of the showcase. I decided to use those curls in her updo, adding in some flowers in the end to create a look that had everyone exclaiming that she looked like a fairy princess.

Jackie Valdez : Let me just start by saying, creating this color was a process. This gem has naturally dark brown hair, several months ago we did an intense highlight and balayage breaking through old color to created a lighter look. The second step we took was another intense full highlight to make her as bright blonde as possible. The third, and final step was a creative balayage with four different shades of purple. This color is a color I have wanted to create for so long and I am so happy that I had a model who was willing to let me try something new and creative on her.

Natalie Sorenson : This gorgeous girl was the only model who I didn't color for the showcase, but I have colored her in the past and she is always a treat to work with! She's a beauty, and an old soul, and time always flies when she's in my chair. I was so happy to get to use her in the showcase as my romantic updo. The best part about stylings Natalies hair was that I had inspiration for her look but no definite plan so I was able to just work with what her hair was wanting to do that day and to finish off the look we added some flowers that matched her dress perfectly.

Needless to say, I was very fortunate to have four of the most wonderful ladies to work with the day of the showcase. They each were flexible and fun, allowing the day to flow smoothly and with ease.

My experience the night of REVEAL was beyond great!! I met so many inspirational artists, although we were all so different we were all there to showcase the talents and skills we work on daily! The best part about this event was all of the support of my friends and coworkers, so many people showed up to the event and loved it. I was so encouraged by each and every compliment I received both from them and those who I just met that night.
