First Time Color.

First Time Color.

There is nothing quite like a client sitting down in my chair and saying "So, I've never had color before..." or a friend coming up to me and saying "Okay. I finally want to change up my color." It's exciting and always a little bit nerve-wracking for everyone involved. They sit in my chair and show me loads of photos from Pinterest that they've been looking at for months, inspiration for what they want to do with their color. Some are people who swore they would never color their hair, some are people who were just too afraid of the upkeep, some just never thought about changing their color and they are suddenly inspired to change it up. As we talk back and forth, I quickly discover what they love and what they hate and begin to attempt to narrow down all of the photos into one solid idea that is our end goal. Throughout the color application and processing time there are moments I look into the mirror and see excitement, sometimes nerves, and (the most rewarding) sometimes a sense of confidence and calm. Throughout the blow dry you can see people begin to see the change in their hair, a smile starts to creep onto their face and there is nothing better than hearing a client exclaim "I LOVE it," or "It's JUST what I wanted."

My biggest hope for when people sit in my chair, especially for the first time, is that they can feel welcomed, confident in my abilities, and excited about the change they're making with their hair. The biggest compliment, besides people loving their hair, that I can get is when a client tells me they trust me and seem entirely comfortable throughout the service. As I've mentioned before, I love the relationship aspect of the hair industry, and the ability to make someone who is new to hair color feel comfortable during their first service with me is so very important to creating a relationship with them.

Here's some special ladies rocking color for the first time. They all have a personalized version of sun-kissed balayage- a great option for those exploring color for the first time, it can be a unique, beautiful, natural (or more bold!) look that doesn't need to be maintained often. It's the best of both worlds: gorgeous color and no huge commitment.
